Treynor Fire Department
The Treynor Fire Department was organized in 1939 and has had only five
fire chiefs in its history. Their members have FFI certification and
some members have EMS certification, and some are career firemen in
Council Bluffs or Omaha departments. TFD is governed under a 28E
agreement with four townships that are within the fire department’s
coverage area, along with the city of Treynor. Each township and the
city pay an annual Tax Levy to the department for fire/EMS protection.
Besides fighting fires, the Treynor fire department is also active in
the community by providing educational programs at the Treynor
Community Schools. They give fire truck and ambulance rides to
pre-school and kindergarten classes. They also provide educational
emergency information, showcase some of the equipment they use, and
provide smoke detectors to residents. To become a volunteer at the
department, it’s as easy as coming to one of the department meeting
nights. They meet on the second and fourth Mondays of the month for
training or business meeting. There is an informal application to
complete. The department provides any training, equipment, and PPE
gear. There is no cost to members other than the time commitment for
meetings, training, and emergency calls.
We currently have 21
volunteers providing services to 90 square miles around the City of
Treynor. We serve the City of Treynor, Washingtion Township, Keg Creek
Township, Silver Creek Township and Hardin Township. Of our 21
firefighters, four are paramedics, 5 emergency medical technicians and
twelve cpr certified firefighters. We average around 170 calls for
service a year. Those calls range from emergency medical incidents,
motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials calls, field fires, motor
vehicle fires and structure fires. On average our members must have
36-48 hours of continuing education every year on their own time to
maintain the requirements of certification as outlined by the state.
Last year 10 of our members received accommodations for saving 2 lives
from cardiac arrest. We are very proud to serve the citizens of the
Treynor Fire District.
